Where to change money in Perth

Central Perth has few walk-in bureaux. Travel Money Oz runs the two in the CBD, both on Hay Street; the rest of its Perth list is suburban shopping centres, from Joondalup to Mandurah, plus Fremantle.

  • Travel Money Oz, London Court - Inside London Court, the mock-Tudor arcade linking the Hay Street Mall with St Georges Terrace. Online orders are ready to collect here about an hour after you place them, the store says.
  • Travel Money Oz, William Street - Where Hay Street crosses William Street, with the same one-hour collection for online orders.

Changing money at the airport

Travelex is Perth Airport's foreign-exchange provider; in July 2024 the airport extended Travelex's concession to at least 2031, with new sites planned for Terminals 1 and 3. Travelex lists two stores: in Terminal 1 International, on Level 1 of landside Departures at the top of the escalator, and on the first floor of Terminal 3 Qantas Departures. In October 2026 the Terminal 3 store listed 06:00 to 19:00 every day except Sunday, when it opens at 10:00; the Terminal 1 page gives no usable hours.

Travelex also has foreign-currency machines at the airport that it says work day and night, paying out up to A$800's worth of nine currencies, Australian dollars among them.

ATMs and cards in Perth

Those Travelex machines accept Visa or Mastercard, debit or credit, but turn away EFTPOS cards, so a UK Visa or Mastercard will do. Elsewhere in Perth, remember MoneySavingExpert's warning that an overseas cash machine can add a charge of its own whichever card you carry; watch for it on the screen. And if a card terminal in a Perth shop or taxi suggests settling the bill in pounds, pick Australian dollars, as MSE recommends.

Paying for transport in Perth

Transperth buses, trains and ferries accept contactless Visa and Mastercard cards, phones and watches. Tag on and off with the same one: a plastic card and the same card in a phone wallet count as separate payment methods. You pay the standard cash fare, from 1 January 2026 A$2.40 for 2 Sections (up to 3.2 km) or A$3.50 for Go Anywhere (three hours), and a day's travel is capped at the A$7.00 DayRider price. Concessions require a SmartRider.

Buses are free within the city's Free Transit Zone if you start and finish inside it, as are trains between City West, Elizabeth Quay and Claisebrook stations when you tag on and off. From airport Terminals 3 and 4, the free Route 292 shuttle runs to Redcliffe Station on the Airport Line, 15 minutes from the CBD.

Good to know

  • Transperth bus drivers no longer handle cash and give no change, so if you must pay a bus fare in cash, have the exact amount.
  • On Sundays, contactless and SmartRider users ride every Transperth bus, train and ferry free from first to last service; late Saturday-night services after midnight are excluded. Keep tagging on and off.
  • Transperth works out contactless fares overnight, and the charge can take one to three more business days to reach your statement.

Perth travel money FAQ

Where is the best place to exchange money in Perth?

In the CBD, Travel Money Oz has two stores on Hay Street, one inside the London Court arcade and one on the corner of William Street. Compare how many Australian dollars each quote leaves you with after any fees.

Is there a currency exchange at Perth Airport?

Yes. Travelex has stores in Terminal 1 International, on Level 1 of landside Departures, and in Terminal 3 Qantas Departures, open 06:00 to 19:00 except on Sunday mornings (listed October 2026). Its currency machines work day and night and take Visa and Mastercard.

Can I pay Perth bus and train fares with a UK bank card?

Yes, as long as it is contactless and on the Visa or Mastercard network; a card loaded in your phone or watch wallet works too. Use that one card or device to tag on and to tag off. Fares match the standard cash price, are capped at A$7.00 a day and cost nothing on Sundays.
