Who we are
fx-i.com is run by ZEDIA LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 04840592). We decide how the personal data described on this page is used, which makes us its controller under UK data protection law. You can reach us at foreignexchange@zedia.org.uk.
In short
- There are no accounts, sign-up forms or advertising cookies on fx-i.com, and we do not sell or share data for advertising.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages help people. You can switch it off for your browser on this page, and it does not run at all on devices set to a time zone in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway.
- Live rates, flags and news come from a few outside services. Your browser asks them directly, so they see your IP address, as any website you visit does.
- What you type into the converter stays in your browser.
- If you email us, we use your message only to reply.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are read, how visitors found them (for example through a search engine), the kind of device and browser, and roughly where visitors are, at country or city level. We look at totals and trends, not at individual visitors.
To tell a returning browser from a new one, Google Analytics stores two cookies in your browser, _ga and _ga_YZF4R7H3Z8, which last up to two years. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google processes the data for us as our service provider, under its data processing terms, and may do so outside the UK with the safeguards UK law requires. The detailed records are kept for two months; after that we see only summary reports.
Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used, so that we can improve it. The UK rules on cookies (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended from 5 February 2026) allow analytics used only for this purpose without asking first, provided we explain it and give you a simple, free way to refuse. That is the switch below.
We do not use Google Analytics for visitors in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway. If your device is set to a time zone in one of those countries, Google Analytics does not load at all and sets no cookies, and analytics cookies left from an earlier visit are removed. Your browser works this out from its own time zone setting; nothing is sent to us or anyone else to do it.
Switch analytics off
The switch stores a small setting in this browser, so Google Analytics no longer loads here and its cookies are removed. It applies to this browser on this device only. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal and analytics stays off. Blocking cookies in your browser's settings also stops it.
Server logs
Like every web server, the one that hosts fx-i.com (GoDaddy) records each request it receives: the IP address, the page asked for, the date and time, and the browser. These logs are used only to keep the site secure and to fix problems, and they are deleted after a limited period set by the hosting provider. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.
Services your browser contacts for live information
Some pages ask outside services for live information straight from your browser. Like any request on the web, each one carries your IP address and basic details of your browser. We send these services nothing else about you, and their own privacy policies apply.
- Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev): European Central Bank reference rates, for the converter and the live rates on the home page, the country, city and exchange pages and Live rates.
- currency-api (latest.currency-api.pages.dev, hosted by Cloudflare): rates for the currencies the European Central Bank does not publish, and the daily changes on the home page.
- Bank for International Settlements (stats.bis.org): central bank interest rates on the home page.
- rss2json (api.rss2json.com): fetches the news headlines on the home page from the news sites' public feeds.
- flagcdn.com: flag images.
- OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org): the map in a city guide, and only once you press "Show the map".
- GOV.UK (www.gov.uk): the Foreign Office's current travel advice for the country of a travel guide, or of a currency you pick in the home page converter, so the guide can show a notice when the FCDO advises against travel to all or part of the country, and the converter can show the FCDO's own advice on money there. Open data under the Open Government Licence.
Links to other websites, such as a map search for an area named in a guide or a provider's own site, take you to those sites, and their privacy policies apply from there.
What we store in your browser
- The Google Analytics cookies described above, unless you switch analytics off or your device is set to a time zone in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway.
- On the home page, a copy of the central bank rates for up to 12 hours, so the page does not ask the Bank for International Settlements again on every visit. It holds public figures only.
- On the travel guides and in the home page converter, a copy of the GOV.UK travel advice for the country for up to six hours, so the site does not ask GOV.UK again every time. It holds public information only.
- If you switch analytics off, the setting that remembers your choice.
- If you play the small game on the page-not-found page, its best score, so it is still there next time. It stays in this browser and is never sent to us.
- If you choose your currency in a guide's converter or in the "I pay in" box on the home page, that choice, so the guides and the home page start from it on your next visit. It stays in this browser and is never sent to us. Choosing the pound again removes it, as does clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
If you email us
We use your email address and your message only to reply and to keep a record of the conversation, and we delete them when they are no longer needed. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your personal data, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it or give it to you in a portable form. You can also object to how we use it. We usually see Google Analytics data only in summary reports, so we may not be able to pick out data about you; the switch above stops any further collection at once.
To use any of these rights, email us. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and has no logins or forms that collect data. No way of sending data over the internet is completely secure, so we keep what we hold to the minimum.
Changes to this page
We update this page when the site changes how it uses data, and change the date at the top.
