Most people landing at Dalaman are bound for Marmaris, Fethiye or Göcek, and the MUTTAŞ coaches to all three charge fixed lira fares that you can pay by card. Leave changing cash until you reach your resort, and use only a bank or a licensed office.

Where to change money in Dalaman

Dalaman town is 6 km from the airport, but most visitors change money where they stay: Marmaris, Fethiye, Göcek or the villages nearby. Across Turkey, only banks, PTT branches and licensed bureaux may trade foreign cash, under a Finance Ministry communiqué, and Hürriyet Daily News reported a crackdown in resorts in early 2026. No office or branch passed the two-source check, so the page names none.

  • Licensed exchange offices, Marmaris and Fethiye town centres - Look for the licence and a board giving both the buy and the sell rate, compare a couple of offices, and keep the receipt. Change in stages rather than all at once, as the lira can slide within days.
  • İşbank cash machines with a deposit slot - According to the bank, Bankamatik machines able to accept cash deposits will swap euro, dollar or pound notes for lira without a card, which can be handy outside office hours.

Changing money at the airport

Dalaman Airport (DLM) is 6 km from Dalaman town, according to the state airports authority, DHMİ, whose facilities list shows banking services without naming them, but nothing official says whether there is a bureau or which ATMs operate in the terminal, so do not count on swapping notes on arrival.

Taxis, Havaş and MUTTAŞ coaches and local public transport serve the airport. MUTTAŞ, the municipal coach company, charges these fares from 18 May 2026, VAT included: TRY 220 to Ortaca or Göcek, TRY 270 to Köyceğiz, TRY 300 to Gökova junction or Fethiye Otogar and TRY 420 to Marmaris Otogar. Its Marmaris line page says credit cards are accepted on all its vehicles and that seats cannot be booked or bought in advance. No official Havaş fare was found.

ATMs and cards in Dalaman

Bank machines in Marmaris and Fethiye give lira on a UK card. İşbank says any fee comes from your card issuer, not the owner of the machine, shows fee details on screen before you confirm, and follows your own bank's daily limit. Ziraat Bank's terminals spot a foreign card and offer the total in that card's currency, at a rate and commission Ziraat decides; İşbank warns that this conversion usually works out dearer and advises paying in lira.

For card payments, Which? (March 2026) advises paying in the local currency without exception, and cites NatWest's finding that one Spanish accommodation provider charged up to 13% more to guests who paid in pounds. With inflation high in Turkey, expect prices well above last year's.

Paying for transport in Dalaman

Marmaris. MUTTAŞ line 48-26 runs 100 km between Marmaris Otogar and the airport, stopping at Gökova junction, Köyceğiz and Ortaca, for TRY 420. Coaches from the airport leave by landing times; for the trip home, check the week's departures from Marmaris on MUTTAŞ's site.

Fethiye and Göcek. Line 48-25 covers the 55 km between Fethiye Otogar and the airport for TRY 300, picking up in Göcek (TRY 220).

In the resorts, payment on minibuses is changing. Turkey Travel Planner said in July 2025 that Fethiye's minibuses no longer take cash but accept any contactless card, while taxis there and in other small towns usually want cash. National guides from 2024 and 2025 still call dolmuş cash only, so carry a contactless card as well as small lira notes.

Good to know

  • No visa is needed for a holiday of up to 90 days, counted over any 180-day period, the FCDO says. Your passport must expire no sooner than 150 days after you arrive and have a blank page.
  • Private drivers and guides expect tips, Lonely Planet says, quoting lira sums per day that inflation soon overtakes, so keep spare notes for boat trips and excursions.
  • Bars and excursions in the resorts sometimes quote euros or pounds; compare with the lira price and pay in lira.
  • Airport coaches cannot be booked, so allow plenty of time.

Dalaman travel money FAQ

Where is the best place to exchange money in Dalaman?

In your resort rather than at the airport: a bank or a licensed döviz office in Marmaris or Fethiye, or a bank cash machine. Only banks, the PTT and licensed bureaux may deal in foreign cash, so steer clear of jewellers and street dealers and compare rates on the day.

How much is the bus from Dalaman Airport to Marmaris or Fethiye?

On MUTTAŞ's fares from 18 May 2026, TRY 420 to Marmaris Otogar and TRY 300 to Fethiye Otogar, with Göcek at TRY 220. Credit cards are taken on board, but fares rise often, so check the MUTTAŞ site.

Do I need a visa for Turkey from the UK?

Not for tourism: the FCDO lets British holidaymakers stay visa-free for a total of 90 days in each 180-day window. Your passport needs at least 150 days left on it from arrival, plus a spare page.

Checked October 2026. Fees, fares and opening times change, so check locally before relying on them. Sources: DHMİ (State Airports Authority) · MUTTAŞ (Muğla Metropolitan Municipality) · Turkey Travel Planner · Lonely Planet · Which? · Hürriyet Daily News
