Local Tip

Do not count on changing cash when you land in Ibiza: the airport's only exchange desk shuts at weekends and closes by mid-afternoon on some weekdays. Bring a few euros or use a card, pay in euros rather than pounds, and buy bus tickets by card, which Alsa prices below cash.

Where to change money in Ibiza

The national tourist board says bureaux, banks, hotels and travel agencies all exchange currency in Spain. No exchange shop in Ibiza Town, San Antonio or Playa d'en Bossa could be confirmed by two sources, so we name none. On the island, a card covers most spending.

  • Best and Fast Change, Ibiza Airport (IBZ), floor 0 - Aena's hours: Monday 11:00 to 21:00, Tuesday 08:00 to 15:00, Wednesday 11:00 to 16:00, Thursday 12:00 to 17:00, Friday 12:00 to 18:00; closed Saturday and Sunday. It is the only exchange operator Aena lists here.

Changing money at the airport

Apart from the weekday-only desk, the cash machines on Aena's list are Euronet ones, in the ground-floor arrivals hall and upstairs in the floor 1 boarding area. Euronet is not a bank, so read the fee shown before accepting; Spanish rules require the machine to display the cost and let you cancel.

All five airport routes are run by Alsa. AERO3 is the express to Ibiza Town and AERO5 serves Playa d'en Bossa and Ses Figueretes, each EUR 3.50 by card or QR code and EUR 4.90 in cash, on Alsa's fare page. AERO1 runs via Sant Josep to San Antonio and AERO4 to Santa Eulària and Es Canar, both listed by Aena as running from 1 April 2026; from Sant Antoni or Santa Eulària the fare is EUR 4.00 by card or QR and EUR 5.60 in cash. We found no official taxi tariff we could open.

ATMs and cards in Ibiza

Card payment, mostly Visa and Mastercard, is common across Spain, and Spain.info warns that some places want about EUR 10 before taking a card. Keep a little cash for beach kiosks and market stalls.

According to the Banco de España, using another bank's machine may mean your card provider passes that owner's fee on to you, and the screen must show the cost first. If it looks high, cancel and try a bank-branch machine in town; Which? also steers travellers away from costly airport machines. When a terminal asks whether to pay in pounds or euros, pick euros: Which? says the pound option leaves a local bank to convert, often for a fee.

Paying for transport in Ibiza

Alsa's island buses charge by distance in four stages. On board, a single costs EUR 1.70 to EUR 2.60 by card or QR, against EUR 2.40 to EUR 3.60 in cash, so paying in notes and coins costs around 40 per cent more. Alsa takes Visa, Mastercard and American Express on the bus as well as cash, but its pages do not say whether contactless taps are used, and tickets after 9 pm can only be bought on board.

For nights out, Alsa's fare page lists night lines D1 to D4 at EUR 2.00 to EUR 4.00 by card or QR, or EUR 2.80 to EUR 5.60 in cash; the D4 includes Ibiza port to Pacha. The page is undated, so check the timetable. Taxis wait at the airport, but agree the fare or ask for the meter.

Good to know

  • Balearic tourist tax: Ibiza charges the same per-night tax as Majorca. The Govern's calculator lists EUR 1 to EUR 4 per night from May to October, depending on the kind of stay, with winter rates (November to April) at a quarter of those, plus 10 per cent VAT. Children under 16 are exempt and the charge halves after eight nights.
  • The Majorca Daily Bulletin reports that rates have not risen since 2018, and in September 2026 the regional government kept a rise out of next year's budget.
  • Tips: service is included, says Spain.info, so tipping is optional; those who tip usually give 5 to 10 per cent.

Ibiza travel money FAQ

Where is the best place to exchange money in Ibiza?

For most visitors, a card at a bank-branch cash machine will beat any exchange desk. The one operator we could confirm, Best and Fast Change at the airport, is closed at weekends, so arrive with some euros if you will need cash straight away.

How much is the bus from Ibiza airport to Ibiza Town or Playa d'en Bossa?

Alsa charges EUR 3.50 by card or QR code, or EUR 4.90 in cash, on both the AERO3 to town and the AERO5 to Playa d'en Bossa and Ses Figueretes. The AERO1 from San Antonio is EUR 4.00 by card or EUR 5.60 cash.

Do I pay a tourist tax in Ibiza?

Yes. Your hotel or rental adds the Balearic tax per guest per night: EUR 1 to EUR 4 in summer depending on the category, much less in winter, with under-16s exempt.

Checked October 2026. Fees, fares and opening times change, so check locally before relying on them. Sources: Aena · Alsa Ibiza · Which? · Banco de España (Cliente Bancario) · Govern de les Illes Balears (Illes Sostenibles) · Majorca Daily Bulletin
